Exfoliation is the removal of the dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. The skin regenerates its cells every twenty eight days and in the process exudes the old and dead cells to the surface. The dead skin continues building up, which can result in clogged pores. It also looks rough, dry and dull.
Exfoliation will not only make your skin silky-soft but it also improves skin tone giving you a healthy glowing skin.
If properly done, exfoliation will unclog skin cells, and reveal the flawless virgin skin that lies below. Exfoliation is also critically beneficial because it improves the efficiency of any skin products used, allowing them to penetrate deeper in to the skin.
Types of Exfoliation:
There are two main forms of exfoliation which may be applied according to preference and skin sensitivity:
1) Mechanical Exfoliation.
In this case, the dead skin cells are rubbed off with an abrasive. Examples include sugar & salt body scrubs, skin brushes and sponges.
The face requires gentle abrasives like round jojoba beads- apricot scrubs are harsh and may cause micro-tears in your skin.
A more effective approach to mechanical exfoliation is microdermabrasion, a skin-care technique which comes in two types – crystal and crystal-free, or diamond-tip. At AvantGard we use the diamond tip to avoid the dust from the crystals.
2) Chemical or Enzyme Exfoliation.
This types of exfoliates work expertly by dissolving the dry skin cells. Their ingredients may include Glycolic Acid, AHAs and BHA, and enzymes such as Pumpkin, Papaya, and Pineapple. Your Esthetician will determine what type is best for your skin type.
A combination of both physical and chemical exfoliates will give your skin the best results.
We invite you to experience a full body scrub or a facial that includes a peel. it will give you an invigorating experience that will stimulate dull, lifeless skin, leaving you feeling smooth, glowing and relaxed.
